What is ENERGY STAR Portfolio Manager?
How does the ENERGY STAR 1-100 rating system work?
Energy efficiency is doing the same work, or perhaps more work, but with less energy. For example, lighting an office building. After an energy efficiency upgrade, the building still has adequate lighting but with much less energy.
Maybe! You never know until you at least benchmark your building. We have worked with many companies who thought they had an efficient building, but unfortunately did not. In fact, our building WAS ONE OF THOSE! It was our building that sparked our interest in energy efficiency.
Benchmarking is the process by which you measure how much energy a building (or campus) consumes, and compare that performance to similar buildings across the country.
Benchmarking is usually a very quick, low cost way to see if your building has any opportunity for energy efficiency. We use a system from the Department of Energy called ENERGY STAR Portfolio Manager. Your utility bill may feel like a lot every single month, but is it really? You can only know once you benchmark.
We offer free benchmarking to most orgnaizations in the greater Huntsville area as part of our participation in the North Alabama Buildings Performance Challenge.
ENERGY STAR Portfolio Manager® is an online tool you can use to measure and track energy and water consumption, as well as greenhouse gas emissions. We use it to benchmark the performance of buildings or campuses.
Your ENERGY STAR score helps you identify which buildings in your portfolio to target for improvement or recognition. A score of 50 is the national median. So if your building scores below 50, it means it’s performing worse than 50 percent of similar buildings nationwide, while a score above 50 means it’s performing better than 50 percent of its peers. And a score of 75 or higher means it’s a top performer and may be eligible for ENERGY STAR certification. Source: ENERGY STAR
