Avion Solution's Commerical Unmanned Aircraft Systems Team is headed to the University of Memphis on April 9 to be a part of the Commercial Drone Expo. The FedEx Institute of Technology has teamed up with the University to bring this event to not just students, but also to the general public. Our UAS Project Lead, Taylor Abington, will be there to speak on UAS Training. The event will highlight the commercial applications of drone technology, showcase their uses, and to facilitate a dialogue on the positive applications of this emerging technology!
Just last month, Avion delivered the FAA-approved Certificate of Authorization (COA) to Sheriff Jeff Long of the Williamson County, TN Sheriff’s Office. We were honored to work with Williamson County on the development of their UAS program, which included equipment, on-site training, and development of their UAS Standard Operating Procedures. While we were able to accomplish this in only 90 days, there are some agencies who have been working on the COA approval process for over two years. Avion recently supported Huntsville Utilities with a demo conducted at the TVA water treatment facility being built in Guntersville. Our UAS team is headed to Minnesota next week to take part in the American Public Power Association Expo and Lineworkers Rodeo. Later this month, we will be conducting UAS training with the Hamilton County, TN Sheriff’s Department and Emergency Services, and Hawkins County, TN Sheriff’s Department, and then participating in the GEOHuntsville Local Government Working Group Meeting in April to discuss UAS use in Utility Emergency Response.
The increasing interest in UAV and autonomous vehicles in all sectors has created an opportunity for new markets, new technology, and new service models to intersect in ways that have previously never been possible. The unlimited potential that drones and the affiliated technology presents open opportunities for entrepreneurs and researchers to engage in new and exciting avenues of partnership. The FedEx Institute of Technology, as a national leader in innovative research and the commercialization of technologies, seeks the best in the industry to participate in the 2016 Drone Expo, in order to foster the community of UAV commercialization. Avion is more than proud to be a corporate sponsor and speaker at this event! To participate in the event or for more information, visit: http://www.memphis.edu/fedex/droneexpo/
